Mia

The subject is a little girl wearing a kind of hanfu mixed with a hanbok (just wanted to do something new). I named her Mia.

Trying to do something like Haccan., but unfortunately, It doesn't look like Haccan at all... Anyway, I like her even though... I tried to reproduced the light blue Haccan use to make his darker tone. From now on, I want to explore other styles that mine.

Little peasant

This was done for my character design course. Maybe the third project, if I recall. We were asked to create an original character based on an animated movie or serie. We were limited to a UPA style, but we could choose any animated movie of serie that respect this rule.

"Brendan and the secret of kells" is in a UPA style. We call this "en aplat" in french. I don't know the english terminology.

I found the graphic style of Brendan and the secret of kells inspiring. Actually one of my favorite UPA style. The project was done shortly after having watched the movie. Then, I tried different variations for a little peasant. The final reasult show her long hairs with bigger sleeves in proportion. I also pulled down the face a little and got her thiner.

Tamer boy (UPA)

A UPA style version of my tamer boy. . He is with a racoon, the animal he is trying to domesticate. I designed it too.

Alchemy drawing software

Do you know about this? It is a software that my friend recommended to me. After he described it, I wanted to try it so much.

It is a software you use a a base for your drawing. With the tool you create random shapes until you get to see something interesting appear. You begin your drawing with abstraction, but it can soon give you an interesting design. It looks great for warmup and brainstorming.

Alchimy software interface
Here is what it can looks like:

It is free to use. Yep. Completely free.

Hayao Miyazaki

I draw this 2 weeks ago with the JavaDraw tool on ratemydrawing.com. It's Hayao Miyazaki, one of the best 2D filmmaker of all time. He was the creator of spirited away, my favorite of his. The visual is fantastic and it is so emotional. He's also the director of others award winner movies. He did My neighbor Totoro, Mononoke princess, Laputa castle in the sky, Howl moving castle, Nausica and the valley of the wind, Kiki Delivery service and many many others...

Arrietty- The borrower

Here is the last animated movie I saw. Arrietty The borrower is a Ghibli Studio production directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi. The story is about small peoples who lives unknown by humans. They borrow food and useful objects in order to survive.

The film is really pretty. I think that the story is a little slow to progress though.

Here the trailer
